Location: On-Site (Stratford, ON)

Duties: Reports to the Supervisor of Environmental Services.  Assists in operating and maintaining wastewater treatment facilities and associated pumping stations.

Work Performed: 

  • Performs inspections, assessments and evaluations of mechanical equipment related to wastewater treatment, wastewater transmission, biosolids treatment, handling and air emissions.
  • Modifies, adjusts, repairs mechanical equipment.
  • Undertakes preventative maintenance. Assists in the modification, adjustment and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Enters sewers, wet wells, treatment tanks and chambers to perform maintenance.
  • Coordinates installation and repair of equipment by contractors.
  • Maintains personal logs, station logs and WPCC maintenance logs detailing work done and process changes made.
  • Inspects, maintains, repairs and cleans buildings, work areas and facilities and reports unsafe working conditions to the Operator in Charge and to the Supervisor.
  • Deals with inspectors, auditors, contractors and the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Responds to spills by assisting with operation of specialized equipment.
  • Deals with traffic control, spill containment and clean-up measures, handling and transportation of waste materials.
  • Assists and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Secondary School Diploma together with a Ministry of the Environment Operator Wastewater Collection Class I Certificate.
  • Minimum 2-3 years related professional experience.
  • Valid Driver's License (Class DZ)

Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications: 

  • Ability to perform physical duties (including confined space entry) in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to obtain Ministry of the Environment Wastewater Collection Class 2 certification.
  • Required to work according to a designated schedule including Standby.
