Duties:
Reports to the Manager of Children’s Services. Responsible for providing resources, services and support for children with special needs and exceptionalities in licensed childcare, recreation, community and family centre environments. These inclusive environments are located throughout Stratford, St. Marys and Perth County.
Work Performed:
- Develops family service plans with families of children with special needs and a exceptionalities. Recommends and develops methods and procedures for staff and support workers to carry out on a daily basis.
- Assists with providing resources and materials that are appropriate for the child.
- Uses a variety of screening and assessment tools to access a child’s developmental needs and plans appropriate programs and strategies for them.
- Draws pertinent information from assessments and observations of the child, and consults with relevant agencies/service providers as required.
- Evaluates ongoing effectiveness of family service plans and makes recommendations for appropriate actions. Keeps agency supervisor and staff informed of all changes.
- Maintains all documentation in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Models appropriate educational practices and behaviours while liaising with service providers, parents/guardians and community partners.
- Monitors the use and supply of specialty materials and program equipment.
- Assists with school transition planning.
- Provides advocacy when needed and maintains a safe working environment.
- Connects with community partners to build broader support networks for children/families in need.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-year College Diploma in Early Childhood Education, together with an Early Chidlhood Education Resource Teacher Certificate/Diploma
- RECE in good standing with the College of ECE’s
- Minimum 2 years of recent and related professional experience
- Valid Driver’s License (Class G)
Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications
- Must be able to meet screening and immunizations requirements in accordance with the City of Stratford and the Child Care and Early Years Act
- Ability to travel throughout Stratford, St. Marys, and Perth County
- Valid Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sectors search
