Duties:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Social Services the Caseworker I is responsible for the verification, administration and maintenance of social service benefits and assistance for eligible participants.
Work Performed:
- Interviews and screens applicants for subsidy eligibility according to the applicable legislation and departmental policies.
- Determines eligibility in accordance with established guidelines, legislation, regulations, and directives and in accordance with delegated authority.
- Responds to client/community partner inquiries.
- Assists clients to stabilize and improve their quality of life through the provision of services and financial benefits and referral to other programs.
- Performs data entry on automated systems, including but not limited to client records, databases, and statistical information.
- Maintains accurate case files and records using electronic and other systems as required.
- Prepares reports, correspondence, and assists with presentations in accordance with established procedures.
- Refers special and/or unusual situations to the supervisor for direction.
- Assists in maintaining a safe work environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Community College Diploma (2 years) in Social Service Work.
- Minimum 6-12 months related professional experience.
- Valid Driver’s Licence (Class G).
- Testing will form part of the qualifications.
Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications
- Ability to operate standard and specialized software.
- Knowledge of related provincial legislation, policies and procedures including the Ontario Works Act, Housing Services Act, Residential Tenancies Act, and Ontario Disability Support Program Act, Regulations and Directives.
- Must be able to meet screening requirements in accordance with corporate and provincial acts, regulations, and directives.
